David asks for two things: restored joy and a willing spirit. You can obey with a reluctant spirit — doing the right thing resentfully. But a willing spirit obeys with desire. It's the difference between someone who has to and someone who wants to.

Reflect

Is your spirit willing right now, or reluctant? What has drained the willingness? What would restore it?

Prayer

Lord, restore my joy and give me a willing spirit. I don't want to obey reluctantly — I want to want what You want. Amen.
